RadioRadar+ Podcast 60: Diving into Death Stranding, Zelda Switch, and The Last Guardian

The Big Topic: The Game Awards let us look at Death Stranding, Mass
Effect Andromeda, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Further Discussion: Finally playing The Last Guardian
What we’re into: Fighting about Prince of Persia 2008

It’s not the best awards show of all time, but at least it’s
something! The Game Awards came and went, and while we didn’t actually
see many awards given on stage we did at least get a fresh look at a
number of anticipated games. Kojima tore our minds apart with a new
Death Stranding trailer, we wonder if BioWare will ever make us flip
out again after a tepid Mass Effect Andromeda showing, and and we
marvel at the latest peak at Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Finally we
close with early impressions of The Last Guardian and reopen the
debate on whether or not Prince of Persia 2008 is any good.

RadioRadar+ Podcast 59: Final Fantasy 15 is a real video game

The Big Topic: Final Fantasy 15 is here, and it’s great
Further Discussion: No Man’s Sky’s latest patch
What we’re into: Endings that stick the landing

Ten years and a change in directors, platforms, and title later, and Final Fantasy 15 is finally out and ready for the world. It’s kind of a mess, but it’s a beautiful mess, and we explain why it’s such an enchanting game to play, even when its story doesn’t hold up under any amount of scrutiny. We also head back into No Man’s Sky with an investigation of its latest update – it fixes a lot of the biggest problems, but is it enough? Last, we talk about Dishonored 2 (again) and how its ending chapters leave a little to be desired. We also talk about some of our favorite video game endings, and what makes them so impactful, even now. Spoilers, obvs.

We open with another (slightly spoilery) dive into Dishonored 2 and its incredible level design. We also played a little bit of Watch Dogs 2 and… actually liked it? Weird. Then we dive headfirst into Dishonored 2 and its satisfying stealth gameplay and surprisingly relevant story. Lastly, we close out with a discussion of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the latest in the long-running shooter series – and interestingly enough, its biggest surprises have nothing to do with the shooter parts.

The Big Topic: Titanfall 2’s surprisingly ingenious and inventive campaign
Further Discussion: The games that excite us in the last two months of 2016
What we’re into: The forgotten games of the past ten months

That sound you hear? That low hum growing in explosive crescendo until finally landing with a loud thud? That’s the sound of the holiday season rapidly approaching – and, interestingly enough, the same sound as a giant mech falling from the sky. We take a good long while exploring what makes Titanfall 2’s campaign so special – especially when its multiplayer seems to have left us feeling cold. Then we grapple hook right on into the games we’re looking forward to playing over the next two months, as well as some bright spots over the past year that may have been overlooked or forgotten.

The Big Topic: The reveal of Switch, Nintendo’s upcoming console/handheld hybrid
Further Discussion: Final Fantasy 15 is a real video game
What we’re into: Red Dead Redemption 2 and Logan reveal trailers, and Rusty Lake Hotel

After months of speculation and leaks, Nintendo finally revealed its Wii U successor Switch in a wordless three-minute sizzle reel. And it looks pretty great? We all weigh in with our thoughts on the console/handheld hybrid, our price point predictions, and what we think it needs to succeed in a market currently dominated by Sony and Microsoft. David also opens up about the 15 hours he spent playing Final Fantasy 15, which is increasingly looking like a real, actual video game. We also discuss the Red Dead Redemption 2 and Logan reveal trailers, and Susan shares her thoughts on a delightfully macabre puzzle game called Rusty Lake Hotel.
